If you have any questions about typical return shipping for an oversized item you may order. Natural FEEL — the patented FeelTrue® soles give you just-right protection while still giving the ground feedback your brain needs for efficient, natural movement. Comfort and performance come from letting your feet do what they’re meant to do, naturally. The minimalist sole now offers excellent traction for varied terrain.
In matching the theme of the outsole, the upper is ideally suited to aggressive conditions. The toebox materials and overlays are stiff and more durable than you may expect. Because I get to review shoes, I’ve tried a range of shoes and can tell you all trail shoes work in different situations –obviously. To put it simply, if you were only going to buy one minimal trail shoe, I’d tell you to buy the TerraFlex II. As I said, he’s recommending a half-way house between a fully minimal shoe and a standard trail shoe. With the present market, the best way to achieve this is probably to add protective inserts to an existing minimal shoe.

I have to say that all the cool shoes I own are now sullied for me because they’re padded. When I wear my rhymes-with-hechers I feel like I’m walking on stilts. Great product, really comfortable they are perfect for my morning walks. I’ll be 70 in a couple weeks brisk walking and hiking is what I do. Will be looking at purchasing others in the future thank you for a great product. We recommend going with your usual athletic shoe size. If you’ve changed your mind within 45 days of purchase, simply return your items for a full refund or exchange them for a different size.
- You can easily crumple the Terraflex into a ball, or squeeze or twist the sole.
- It has an amazing tread and can easily accompany you on a gentle walk, a long hike, or even a muddy trail run.
- They do offer half sizes all the way up to size 12, but like most other companies, after that only offer whole sizes.
- The TerraFlex is not waterproof and has lots of mesh-like material in the uppers for high breathability and quick drying.

I have a long day hike I like to do that is about 5 miles long. However, when the creek I have to cross is up, I have to either take my shoes off or get them wet. Well there’s one more option but I prefer not to alter my route. When I’m wearing waterproof mids I usually just take them off because the water xero terraflex will go over the top and then they are slow to dry. Due to the lightweight, almost mesh like constriction, I just walk across like nobody’s business. Of course this means I’m now hiking in wet shoes, but I found that if I wore light wool socks it really didn’t feel much different than hiking in dry shoes.
Detailed Review
There was a lot of thunder during the afternoon but the worst stayed away, with only a few light showers https://xero-accounting.net/ and a welcomed cooling breeze as a result. The elevation on the trip was between 700 and 1700 ft .
The supple outsole section along the bottom edge has been decently rugged. Even with the extra protection and light cushioning, they are still minimalist shoes with a great grounded barefoot feeling and feedback design. They’re great for summer running, and obviously not ideal for winter conditions (although some people have been known to wear them with toe-socks and microspikes). I’ve found they require very careful foot placement on steep and slanted surfaces, otherwise the straps can bite painfully into soft skin.
Shoe Review: XeroShoes HFS Minimalist Lightweight Road Running
For conditions in upstate New York, the biggest traction concerns in my experience are scrambling over sandstone ledges and running through layers of dried leaves. While we have our share of muddy patches, we don’t typically see long stretches of soft dirt. Since my Field Report the weather turned hot and somewhat dryer but it has still been a wetter than normal summer. As a result my hiking was limited to early morning or late afternoon exercise hikes with the exception of one overnighter on September 1, 2018.
